Original ONGOING Comedy Fantasy Romance Magic Male Lead Slice of Life Supernatural Urban Fantasy

"Um... Hello, I guess? Is this where I'm supposed to explain what's going on? Well, I would love if someone explained things to me for a change, but whatever, I will give it a try.

So, my name is Leonard Dunning, pleased to make your acquaintance. According to my ID, I'm a fairly average high-schooler, living alone while my parents are somewhere 'overseas', wherever that may be. I'm tall, pretty fit, living in an impeccably clean house, and I attend a scenic high school full of friends, romance and coming-of-age hi-jinks. Sounds neat on paper, right? Too bad I have absolutely no memory of any of this. One day I simply woke up in this weirdly pristine world with a splitting headache and a nasty case of retrograde amnesia that left me a blank slate unable to recognize even my face in the mirror. Worse yet, apparently this whole place is running on fairly clich├ęd writing conventions and stereotypes, complete with obvious background characters and dense harem protagonists!

So, what would your average guy do in this kind of situation? I have no clue, but as for me, I decided to roll up my sleeves, grab a notepad, observe this weird world and work out what makes it tick. If you are curious about how deep this rabbit hole goes (and trust me, we will need spelunking equipment), you are more than welcome to come along for the ride."

Indulgent Story, don't spoil before reading.

The story is great, and indulgent on the history of anime.

While it does do somethings to subvert expectation, it's very celebaratory of it's subject matter.

That said a non spoiler guide is that the character development is top tier, even if the plot is delibarately predictable and the pacing a bit odd.

A different take on Isekai

Although the premise isn’t new I’m really digging this story. Only ten chapters in so far but it’s very engaging and the character interactions play out very well. I like how the MC isn’t really neotaring his friend but breaking through the tropes both purposefully and accidentally is very entertaining. Keep up the content please. If it gets there I don’t mind adult situations cropping in but nothing explicit please. I like the lighthearted tone of the story. Unlike some I do like harem stories both light hearted and adult oriented but I think your aiming for the former, which is fine.

first review in a long time

As the title of this review says, i rarely give them out.... that being said, i have sat for way too many hours, and read way to far into the early morning for my health.

I have started reading hundreds of stories on this site... some i follow, most i drop. every now and again i find one that i call "Good"... and even more rare i find one that sits in the catagory of "Rare gem". this is one of those stories.

the absurd size of each chapter means that this story has more meat to it in 10 chapters than many others have at chapter 60 or even 80... (Author note: please dont change the size of the chapters as i LOVE having meat to consume).. the writing is impeccable and grammer mistakes are so rare as to not even be noticeable. the charaters (except for the "Placeholders" which are SUPPOSED to be 2D) are fleshed out well when you consider the story is completly driven from the MC's point of view. I honestly cant get over how much i like this story, it is now firmly listed as a story i will follow until its end.

Thanks again to Egathentale for sharing this.

Top notch; Professional Quality; Read it.

Very refreshing spin that cleverly employs genre tropes while turning them on their heads. Interesting plot. Three dimensional and compelling characters. Interactions that, while note entirely realistic all of the time, are believable within the context of the world building.

The author has a firm mastery of the English languagem Beyond that, there is a level of detail, thoughtfulness, and cleverness on display within the writing that places this within the top tier of anything you'll find on this site. This is upper echelon, professional grade writing.

Just favorite this fiction and read it. It's that good.

Worth the Candle Meets Highschool DxD

Overall. VERY entertaining and meta story telling.

Here are my reasons I liked it and you may like it too.

  1. Very much like another web fiction: Worth The Candle: MC is stuck in a story that they may have created or helped in the making of. The MC also realizes that they are stuck in this 'narrative' and so recognize the tropes / cliches / and plot armors that abound. Using said knowledge they try to get ahead of the game...(maybe not since the Author / God really likes the mess around the MC - as expected)
  2. So that kind of story is very entertaining and funny by letting us 'inside' the mind and events of the MC and supporting cast as they struggle(funny that) against their plot and narrative that the author / god sets against them.
  3. Even though it seems to start slow...stay on course. It does get weird and neat later. (hence that Highschool DxD label..those in the know will know what I mean)

Overall, I'm liking this story. You may too. But...then again you may hate it for the reasons I listed. Laters!

Stories good until it goes off the deep end

SPOILERS AHEAD

At the beginning the story is pretty good, it had characters that although not unique for a anime-like harem story, the author understands this and decides to add some extra spice to it, having the MC see through the harem's antics and it makes for interesting coversations: changing it from an unoriginal copycat story to a unique and interesting one. Suddenly however in an extremely random event the story suddenly decides it wants to add magic and fighting to a romance slife of life story; the Princess is part-dragon, the Class president is a magi, and the f*cking Childhood friend turns out to be an undercover angel.

I've seen other stories try and do this and in my opinion it just doesnt work, you don't have a mostly-normal person just easily accept that an actual Draconian wants to get in there pants, as the MC is able to easily accept in less than one chapter.

Also, while this may admittedly get fixed later in the story, while isulting his friend Josh for being dense, has been leading on every single girl in the novel. In the story the MC even says that hes going to stop interfering with the girls so that they still hook up with Josh like the story intended and not mess it up, which in the end he doesnt do one bit and instead decides everything must follow what he thinks, never thinking about the consequences even though hes supposed to be analytical; and in the end make nearly every girl in the novel show romantic affections towards him without him doing literally anything about it besides saying "Well its not like I dont like you" to exactly one girl; making him seem like a douchebag.

In the end the story isnt the quality that it used to be anymore, and although i will still read it to see if can fix itself its gone down to something ill only read if I have literally nothing better than this to read.

very boring. Extremely slow pace.

Extremely boring, although decently written. As of chapter 6 I don’t know what everyone else is harping on about. It’s only the glowing reviews that are making me skim through this hoping it gets better

This is what people call good shit, and mean it.

The characters who are based on tropes are fleshed out characters, even the side characters. World building is good. Terminology that some might not understand is explained, and not just expected to be obvious. There is both scripted conflict, which is thrown off course by Leo, and there is non scripted conflict that pops up due to Leo's actions.

Good Shit.
