Original ONGOING Comedy Fantasy Romance Magic Male Lead Slice of Life Supernatural Urban Fantasy

"Um... Hello, I guess? Is this where I'm supposed to explain what's going on? Well, I would love if someone explained things to me for a change, but whatever, I will give it a try.

So, my name is Leonard Dunning, pleased to make your acquaintance. According to my ID, I'm a fairly average high-schooler, living alone while my parents are somewhere 'overseas', wherever that may be. I'm tall, pretty fit, living in an impeccably clean house, and I attend a scenic high school full of friends, romance and coming-of-age hi-jinks. Sounds neat on paper, right? Too bad I have absolutely no memory of any of this. One day I simply woke up in this weirdly pristine world with a splitting headache and a nasty case of retrograde amnesia that left me a blank slate unable to recognize even my face in the mirror. Worse yet, apparently this whole place is running on fairly clich├ęd writing conventions and stereotypes, complete with obvious background characters and dense harem protagonists!

So, what would your average guy do in this kind of situation? I have no clue, but as for me, I decided to roll up my sleeves, grab a notepad, observe this weird world and work out what makes it tick. If you are curious about how deep this rabbit hole goes (and trust me, we will need spelunking equipment), you are more than welcome to come along for the ride."

I don't know exactly what I expected...

...but this is way better than whatever it was. I don't leave many reviews but this is both hilarious and engaging.

A beautiful rejuvenation of common tropes & genera

I honestly can say this is the best book I've encountered on RR. The only thing I have to say is that the characters are all cliches. This is intentional, and it's a plot point, and the characters incorporate the cliche while still being 3-dimensional characters, so it honestly is a wonderful part of the story. Even the Kuudere character, a trope I've never seen done well before, is a beautifully crafted character, with strong reasoning and backstory for her... personality trait? disability? ...so yeah. I love this novel. Please keep writing it with the same amazing quality it has had so far. Also, I love the chapter lengths, which are significantly longer than most RR stories. The long format makes it a satisfying read anytime a chapter is posted. (Written at chapter 16/ Page 582)

Best Slice of Life on RRL (minimal spoiler)

Style: Slice of life done right, each chapter has 4 episodes which narrates what's needed, not a single paragraph without purpose and 0 attempts to word count/fill pages.

Story: OMG! Author doesn't spoil his own content, readers can't predict the plot with usual otaku experience and there's a welcomed existentialist discussion to spice things up.

Characters: Cliché! The best of them and on a new level because Author likes them, sure it's possible to spot some favorites and 2 characters are almost left behind, however, IT IS ON PURPOSE. Plot is, first, based on DateSims and players (author/readers) usually end up with a single lover, this story slowly solves itself arround this DateSims aspect aaaaand BAM! A new aspect emerges and we (readers) can no longer see that DateSim resolution, instead we find a cute romance... Nah, enough with spoilers, my point is "every character is important and thanks to them the story finds renovation every chapter".

Grammar: As always, I'm not a native speaker so 5 stars.

Best story I've read on this site!

This is one of the best stories on RR hands down! The humor is amazing, the grammar is almost professional. The story is laid out slow and methodical with a clear direction. I've only seen maybe three typos in the whole thing! All the chapters are really long and allow for binge reading for hours! Heck I read this all last night untill the sun came up it was so good. If you like anime or have watched it at any point you will love this. And if you haven't you would still enjoy the characters, and the humor without a doubt. And by good is the author the wittiest author I have ever read in my 22 years of life. Keep writing!

(Review as of Chapter 19)

Style: Though there are few chapters, the length of each chapter are long and enjoyable to read for me. The chapter are also split into parts, which also help with reading. Besides the prologue, the story is told from the perspective of Leonard Dunning, who has forgotten much of his life. The only remaining things he can remember seems to be literature tropes, which he uses to try to change his life.

Story: Leonard tries his best to observe and write down everything strange or weird from an observer's point of view, but he is stuck being around his only male friend. This male friend attracts lots of beautiful girls, who seem special in some way. Also, the pacing of the story may seem slow, but I believe the author is trying to stick to a normal high school setting while also adding in new elements to make it as enjoyable as possible.

Grammar: There are usually some mess ups with though/thought, as well as use of semi-colons where they don't need to be. I'll probably go through the chapters once more after I finish volume 1 of the story, and help the author in the chapter comment sections.

Character: I enjoy reading about Leonard Dunning doing his best to change his world. The other characters in this story are basic cardboard cutouts, but I enjoy reading about them because Leonard tries his best to change those cutouts into something more human. My second favorite character is the assistant, because she is the girl most likely to be paired with Leonard, and also because I ship them together.

Other: I believe 4/5 is a good score, because this story interests me a lot. A score higher than 4 would have to be more than interesting. A story above 4 stars would have to pull at my emotions and make me love the world and the characters. A score below 4 is reserved for stories that I wouldn't mind dropping if I found another novel to read. This story is interesting, and I am excited to see what happens next.

Constructive critisicm: Be mindful of when to use semi-colons. When reading comments, always keep in mind that some readers will want something else, but those demands don't have to be met. Always be aware of a character's weakness, and make challenges that are tough, but fair. Also, know that there are people who enjoy the story, and they will support the author. laughing

(Side note: I wish I was better at reviewing novels. cry

I've never been this Giddy reading in a long while

The story is interesting and it plays with anime tropes and virtual reality in an interesting manner. What hooked me the most was the relationships.

GOD!!! the relationships, he turned the strangeness and cringiness of anime tropes (like the tsundere, kuudere, the cool beauty) and turned it inside out and twisted it into something really endearing, beautiful and intimate.

He cut off the bad parts of an anime and replaced it with falling pigs, and those pig parts are delicious AF!!!!

I am astonished at just how much meticulous work and thought was put into weaving together this wonderful world, story, and characters. This is a top quality story that blew my expectations out of the water and some more. I binged this really hard until I caught up and am looking forward for more!

Holy shieeeet! What a wild ride!                  I mean, this is not the sort of quality you find outside officially published stories, yet on a subject that could only exist in a web novel. Everything is so perfectly written, paced and styled. I love it

im not usually one for these sorts of stories, i prefer more action-packed tales (as might be inferred from the fact that i frequent this site in particular), but goddamn bro, this is some quality shit. characters are (ironically) very fleshed out and i actually believe everything, despite/because of the context it was presented in. cool fucking idea, and a really fun slice of life
