This is a great example of a bad example, probably one of the worst monster protagonist novels i ever read. why you ask? simple, first the author is using the characters stupidity to hide how awfully bad his character design is.

secondly he constantly changes POV as a replacement for any decent world building, thirdly the system he made is all over the place with no resemblance of any common sense i mean what the hell is "cunningness, might, toughness" could you even use any worse description of stats and apparently as long as you write the monsters name in third rate Latin it somehow makes the bad descriptions of monsters somewhat "believable".

lastly using Gandalf as a curse word doesn't make the novel funny it just feels forced and out of place. the only reason you should read this is if you've run out of anything good to read and have time to kill.

Oh yeah, and the formatting is crap.

They are just ants

I got up until Storm of Blades, and to be honest I was really enjoying it. The journy of an ant gaining power to try and find his colony was pretty entertaining, up until he actual found it. It wasnt a drop in quality or story that turned me off it, but the mc. Once he found the colony he seemed to fall into a 'for the hive' mentallity where he threw himself into protecting the hive, even going as far as to make almost suicidal decisions to potect said hive. But they are just ants. There is no super intelligent ant he can talk to or build a connection with, there is no bond that could expain his thoughts. They are just ants he keeps throwing himself infront of in order to protect. It would be like me fighting a bear to protect a duck, sure I'd be sad if it died, but its only a duck.

Can someone explain this to me, because it really brought down my enjoyment.

Not a good novel. Amazing grammer, almost no mistakes. Unique-ish setting and plot and thats where the positives end. My problem is the lack of realistic MC. He appaerently remembers his past perfectly, yet never yearns for it, neever has any regrets. He goes from joking about Gandalf to starving and having to kill a creature of similar size, watching it slowly die in front of him, probably his first kill in both lives, and then continues on with no regrets or sadness and jokes around like nothing happened. Again, this is right after  his reincarnation. The author also uses massive font in his early chapters to hide his bare bones "paragraphs" as well as an overuse of onomatopoeias in his writing. This i do not find endearing or funny given their huge quantity.

Amazing world, mentally handicapped protagonist

The world is very interesting, with a unique take on evolution and the dynamic of monster interactions. However, this all falls so painfully short of the sheer stupidity of the protagonist, who likely is autistic to a scary level.

Otherwise, good story.

Good start, bad continuation

As many others have said... just no.

Very good start, but you might as well have killed the story when MC joined colony.

For praising his cunning so many times, it seems once he met other ants it was reduced to -25 or lower. Rambo like suicide charges, weird protection intincts to insects etc. just weird and impossible to plough trough for more than 1-2 chapters.

It’s a great novel and RinoZ has released the chapters quite fast on royal road but if you don’t want to wait, there are 180 chaps released on Webnovel. I recommend you also go to his patreon to support him so he can also push more chapters.

Quality writing, pacing, and characters

Solid writing, the story is told in clear efficent sentences that have very few wasted words. The MC works for his power ups, there are no irrational jumps in power. The story moves foward in a steady and logical pace. The characters have their own personalities and quarks, they are not the cookie cutter good and bad guys.

The only terrible thing about this story is that the newer chapters are found in that cesspool known as m.webnovel.com. I've tried reading some of the other stories on that site. Just awful, I can feel myself becoming dumber reading that 3th grade shonen trash. Chrysalis is like a gold ring stuck in a septic tank full of shit.

I also do not like the new cover art. A Last Supper syle landscape painting with 19 instead of 12 disciples would have jived better with the plot of the story.

Amazing story, but that's only it

Fun and enjoyable story, with a fuck-ton loads of mistakes...

Style: You have it right, ladies and gents, this novel is one of the unique ones where you will see some times words ten times smaller than the rest of the words in the chapter~ Not to forget that reading from the phone is impossible unless you manually decrease the size of the letters. This part can be fixed and if it ever does, expect an almost full rating for the style.

Grammar: To get off with the hard hitters, grammar is shit. Well, it's not abysmal shit, but it's not great either.

Story: Forgotten level has been pointed out in the comments and the author hadn't fixed it, and I myself have found another instance of it happening but I will be merciful and judge the story purely for the story. It's great. The story is an amazing Rollercoaster that never ends, one of the better stories on RoyalRoad  and the reason this is still a recommendation despite all of the bad points.

Characters: Not really sure what to say here... characters have a distinct personality that differentiates them from others. It isn't anything complex, but regarding the tone of the story, it's darn near perfect (aside from the priest).

Overall: It is a good read and definitely a recommendation. Not much to say that other reviews haven't covered, the story is definitely worth investing yourself into.
