The story of a man who accidentally wrote another world into existence.

Everyone breaks away from their mundane daily life in one way or another. Our protagonist, an unfortunate consequence of circumstance, being no different, often escaped the harsh reality of life by writing stories of an alternate world of swords and magic. Though he recognized the difference between reality and fantasy, he could've never imagined what would happen, when the line between the two blurred as lightning struck down from the skies, and his escapism fantasy became all too real...

After he came to, he would soon learn that things in the other world aren't quite as he remembered them to be. The world he wrote of had become but a shadow of its former self.

Albeit hesitant at first, he sets off on a quest to find out the secrets behind the Trails, yet even then, he can't help but wonder... Can he really bring his world back to its old glory?

I have never written a story before in my life and now I'm doing so in a language I don't natively speak. Groundbreaking quality is probably not something to be expected, but I do my best to keep things readable.

With the necessities out of the way, both constructive criticism and other suggestions are very much welcome, and I'll do my best to take them into account when writing future chapters.

A love letter to the genre.

STORY:

If you pick up Trailblazer, you'll get what you'd expect, a fantasy world of swords and magic...

Except it has been brought back to stone age, and our protagonist now has to pioneer the reconstruction of his world once again. Though unlike most kingdom building stories, he does so by fighting. Not with wikipedia knowledge. 5/5

The escapism fantasies of the protagonist unfolding into reality drags you in, and clearing the Trails and reclaiming the lost knowledge keeps you engaged.

STYLE:

It's great. Not too many things to comment about this one. I personally don't mind the observations of the protagonist, as they're delivered rather fluently, though someone else might find them to be a little distracting. 5/5

GRAMMAR:

The author claims not to be a native speaker, I say he should have more confidence. 5/5

CHARACTER:

The characters follow the setting. Generic, but executed well. But Admittedly, they aren't too original. My only complaint would be that apart from the protagonist, most of the other characters lack depth. But that's as of now, and by the looks of things, that's going to change soon. 4.5/5

The protagonist is a bit awkward at first, but as he gains confidence on his journeys he gets a lot better, which alone makes the story rewarding. And the foxgirl. Also the foxgirl.

The author has uploaded a 'Self-review' criticizing his own work. Don't listen to that, it's bogus. Best of luck for the author!

Made me sign up to review it

I've read 6 novels on royal road so far. All highly rated and greatly praised. But this is the only story that made me actually want to tell people about it, the only one that made me try to get others to read it too. It's special, and I love it. Give it a try and I'm sure you will too.

Ascendant tier weeb-ery with potential.

This story has a great deal of potential. With time, effort enough tweaking by the author (or an editor) something truly special may be made. In its current state it is something that I found difficult to pull myself through, but something I couldn't put down because of the underlay ideas that kept peeking through the cracks.

For now this is simply "Ok" but it has the potential to be another Grigmar of Fire and Ash tier novel. I'd like to see that happen, I really would.

Pros

- Trails are neat and if used well they will be able to carry this story solely on their own. They are a cool concept and one that haven't been fully explored so far.

Problems

- Characters act strangely, and the MC especially doesn't look after their own interests like a normal person would. This really makes the novel feel "fake" as people certainly dont act like that irl much, if at all.

- Several annoying side characters exist and derail plot regularly in the same way a filler episode on Naruto does. Some may be potential harem members but they don't have any qualities that make them worthy of such. They exist and to be frank, I wish they did not. In their current state, a lot of side characters need complete mannerism overhauls if they're to be promoted from "So annoying they should be thrown into the closest sun-like-object" to "Tolerable, perhaps even likable"

- MC just gives away shit like hes Oprah. Charity isnt as common as people seem to make it out to be. If someone had something that gives them a marked advantage and wont bring repercussions as a result of use, they gunna use it and guard it like a paranoid dragon.

Conclusion: Doesn’t feel like a novel that is enjoyable without a serious suspension of disbelief because of its characters atm. It has a world worth setting a story in and some good ass ideas which have the potential for something special to be hewn out of narrative bedrock.

Turn off your brain and enjoy

Tired of complex plots that reach around it's own back to get to the point? Tired of grimdark stories that put thir characters and readers through hell? Look no further. Trailblazer is a great story that's easy to digest and light on the mind. With classical Isekai tropes and the obligatory powerfantasy sprinkled about this story reads easy and fun.

My only warning is that an overreliance on tropes and an close to infallible protagonist can lead to repetitiveness and lack of suspense.

As an avid consumer of this type of fiction I always love when I find an author who can skirt around tropes and cliches with mastery, not that tropes are bad I love them.

Of course many of the things sound familiar, but do not let that detract by how original the end execution is.

Read it!

I hope to see more.

This one needs to be WAY up higher in trending. The story is interesting and hooked me right in. None of the "questionable qualities" the author possesses transfer to his work. Anyway, why the hell are you still skimming through reviews instead of reading it?

(I am attempting to keep this spoiler free for anyone who might be interested, so I apologize for the somewhat vague nature of the review in places.)

The idea of the story itself is an interesting one.
