Original COMPLETED Contemporary Drama Fantasy Psychological Female Lead High Fantasy Magic Male Lead Multiple Lead Characters Portal Fantasy / Isekai School Life Secret Identity Supernatural

In the war-torn land of Cyraveil, four heroes strove to overthrow an empire. By cold steel and elemental sorcery, they brought peace to a warring land on the brink of destruction. As the flames died, the realm needed strong leadership, and who better than the champions who had saved the kingdom? But when the people sought out their saviors... they vanished.

Matt, Blake, Jen, and Carl: the four mysterious companions, who together had deposed an insane ruler and saved countless lives, were gone—spirited back in a whirlwind of magic to a sleepy suburb in Mellbridge, Oregon, never to return. The friends found themselves home in the real world, exactly as they'd been the night they were taken, as if no time had passed... except only three came back.

Hi there! This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...)

I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it!

[Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat.

Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time.

Not an easy story to read but intense emotions

RRL is full of stories telling us about people from earth becoming heroes in a fantasy world. Rarely do those people return and never do we hear about how that turns out for them. 'Epilogue' starts where those stories have ended and shows how difficult it is to fit back into your ordinary life after having lived stressful but glorious adventures for the last years. Especially if you didn't want to return.

Style: The story is told in third-person style from an internal view, each chapter rotates between the three protagonists and there are short parts following the police and their missing person case about the fourth dimension-traveller. This shows us the events from multiple points of view, leading to additional nuances in the storytelling.

Story: The whole plot takes place back in our world. What happened in the other world is barely told, just a bit here and there. Bit by bit the reader learns what the characters had to do to survive and none of them is without scars. The things we learn are very deep with complex entanglements and brutal revelations.

Grammar: Good, very few errors.

Characters: The story concentrates on the inner turmoil and the difficulties the protagonists have fitting in after all they have won and lost. Each of them tries to cope in a different way which leads to different problems and they hurt from all those internal contradictions. Those and their relationship to each other are far from simple and this is described in an excellent way. Very rarely is a story this focused on the characters' development.

If you are looking for an easy read to pass the time, you should look elsewhere. This story hits you hard and makes you yearn for closure from these serious experiences.

Does in 300 pages what most cant in 30k

If you compare Epilogue with other fictions in RR, Id say its "short" and sweet.

Excellent story & plot, the author doesnt hold your hand and dumps information on you 2 pages after the beginning.

The characters actually feel like REAL people. Im no expert, but perhaps give them even more layers?

The rest is just wonderful and very enjoyable.

Excellent worldbuilding, that it does feel as if I had read the whole adventures just from the tiny bits of info provided.

Ok, I actually only came here to talk about The Last Science (the author's other work), but I checked this out on the off chance it would be just as good. And it is! It's a beautiful small scale drama between four characters that really hits the notes perfect. Pacing is a little weird, but this is a nano novel so I'll let that slide. Can't wait to see how it gets worse for the characters!

Epilogue is a refreshing take to the isekai genre, exploring what happens when those who were summoned return back to earth. Each character feels unique and real, each with their own feelings and morals.  Would highly recommend to anyone who wants something different from what they might usually read on this website! 12/10 would recommend!

Can't wait to read the next one!

This has been another great story to read on my breaks at work, except this time it's actually done! Great trio of characters, and the worldbuilding was amazing.

It's not exactly the most original world or anything but it really pulls you in. Also, the story had a brother-sister relationship that was actually well-written and felt like real siblings for once. That's harder to find than you might think :(

Realistic, almost brutally so.

Tl;dr it's very good.

'Teenagers travel to another world and become heroes' is a cliché plot that fails to address many issues about what travelling to magical medieval society would be like.

This is not the case with Epilogue. The characters are realistic in a sharp, painful way. Reading this makes you feel like you're uncovering a distressing truth, but you can't help but continuing to find out more.

All in all, I'm glad I read this and I'm looking forward to anything new the author will write.

5 Star Thriller/Tragedy/post-Isekai story

very compelling and engaging story. The Tragedy is strong with this one, i felt somewhat distressed while reading at some point.

I can really recommend this. Even though it is only those 19 chapters and i usually only dig long stories.

What happened when ...

I loved it what happened after narnia is a question I always asked myself after the trauma and sorrow after the challenge and elation after being the hero what do you come home to and do you want to be there. This is the story I didn’t know to ask for but always actually wanted thank you for sharing.

I hate this, you gotta read it though

  1. I hate everything about this novel. The stupid characters who make stupid decisions. The characters who just don't speak up about their problems and keep to themselves knowing it will cause more problems for them. The depressing mood throughout the whole story. Lack of a happy or even hinted at happy ending. Mostly the characters

The setting was cool, I like the returned trait. All in all 5/5 book that I utterly hate. Made me depressed and mad at all the characters. I would recommend this to everybody.

Even if I hate it, it doesn't mean it's bad. It's good actually. Having induced emotions from the reader is good. Its a good book about flawed people trying to cope in a situation unfamiliar to them.

yes this book is good and I really like it and you should read it because it is good. it rivals my immortal in quality, though not quite as good. it is definitely better than the stories in morrowind however, and doesnt come with the amphetamine binge. This may be positive or negative for you depending on how you view things, but its probably positive. it just won a contest so you should extra read it and encourage him to use more amphetamines to write his works of art so that one day he may surpass the greats like ebony da'arkness raven way or whatever and can finally exterminate the prepz and pozers
