Garth Daniels is down on his luck, running from his life in a quiet little town in the middle of America when our universe is co-opted into a war between an unstoppable race of reality-hopping monsters that feeds on the flesh of living creatures, and a conglomeration of thousands of realities, nested inside each other like a matroska doll.

We're the new layer.

These monsters, the Kipling, can only be defeated in a reality with very specific physics, otherwise they are unstoppable, and so Earth's universe has been assimilated to give us a fighting chance.

Garth must set aside everything that he knows, and think fast to adapt to the new laws of nature if he wants to survive.

Cover by Asera, a cool, helpful dude, who doesn't get enough props. Go check him out!

Like a train wreck. It's bad, yet you keep reading

It was an average 3/5 stars before chapter 100, I was just reading it to pass time till then, but after that it dropped to 1 star and ruined any remaining enjoyment I had. Chapter 100 is the absolute epitome of lazy writing I will 100% use this novel in the future for examples of very lazy writing. It does not matter if it was an interesting idea, or if it recieved a lot of praise in the comments, chapter 100 was horrible. and I'll expalin why.

Spoiler: Why chapter 100 is bad

Good writing cold-cocked me

I have read a lot of fiction on RR. I rarely feel the need to comment on a story. So far I only bother when I come across a trending story that wastes my time by being some of the worst garbage I've ever read; hoping to save other, poor souls from sharing my fate.

Then I came across The Outer Sphere. Handful of reviews, not very popular, never heard of the author. I go in not expecting much. Starts off with an interesting (new) take on the "system hits earth" genre and then it really takes off with impressive world building and good writing. The writing starts off alright. But later chapters have had me literally laughing out loud. Fairly rare thing for a story to manage.

Don't let the lack of reviews mislead you. Not perfect but pretty entertaining. This one is worth giving a shot.

From the beginning till chapter 99 you get a story of a man with a below average life.  Douchebag brother, corrupt politician parents that through him under the bus to save their own asses. You see this man raise from the ashes, make a name for himself, find a girl, LITERALLY F*CK A GODDESS, make a family, create a city, not kill his doppelgänger and instead becoming best buddies, and learn magic.

It was all going great till we hit ch100 and the author decided to bash the reset button destroying 99% of what makes this story great and turning it into a grim dark.

I did not like it and based off of the other reviews I’m not alone and will read a few more chapters. If it don’t pick up and leave the grimdark genre soon then I’m dropping.

Other than that the novel is great.

I don't get it. I just don't understand!!! Why would you write a story, build up characters, a world, a narrative - and then just kill everything off out of nowhere and start over!

It may as well be a different story altogether after that chapter, everything that came before is just backstory now.

Two different stories but both are great

Reviewed at: Chapter 158: Done dirt Cheap!

Very well written, the story is great, the mc is great, the author has some great ideas and implements them well.

like others have said everything changes at chapter 100. It’s honestly a completely different story. I can see why the author did it and I can understand why people are mad about it.

Personally, I don’t mind it. It could have been executed better, maybe giving a bit more closure to what was essentially the end of one story but I can also see why you would want it to stay open ended, it let’s then readers feel the frustration of the MC to some extent.

I still enjoy the story and I look forward to continue reading it, even if it is a very different one to the one I started reading. Keep up the good work!

For me, it was the way he tossed aside relationships and then had the character act like they barely mattered.

Spoiler: Spoiler

If the switch hadn't destroyed or postponed basically all the significant relationships in the MC's life for so many chapters, all the chapters I skimmed through, I think I could have hacked it. As it is, I can only say that I am vastly disappointed and I won't hang on this author's whims any longer. Too painful, too heartless, so I'm done.

It was pretty good until the Author decides to flip the board. Then it's just a sunk cost.

I didn't drop the story in chapter 100.

*sigh* I thought everyone was being overdramatic about post-chapter100 being horrible. But they weren't.

The novel went from light fast-paced to political slow-paced. I don't mind the reset, but the world-building is taking too long.

I don't really know if the MC is acting retard or if he really is retarded. The only thing I'm certain is that the novel is stressing me out with all the mistakes the MC makes.

The story starts out well enough. Decent characters, progression, and writing quality.

However, the story is a bit aimless, and there is a huge, glaring problem with the conflict (and fights) in the story.

Wizard fights are usually won by who manages to draw all the mana in the area into their "lantern", thus rendering their opponent impotent (if they're also a mage.) However, I guess the author realized that if the MC actually did this, fights would be boring, so he chose an even worse option.

Virtually every conflict starts out with the MC seeing a slaver, serial killer, or someone who has tried to kill him multiple times, and his go to move nearly EVERY TIME is to try to negotiate with them, rather than form a lantern and nuke them. They predicatably form a lantern, then he gets beat up, nearly dies, and someone rescues him or a Deus Ex Machina saves him.

He's allegedly a genius due to stats, and the author keeps saying how self centered and morally grey he is, but the only people he ever kills are punch clock villains or people he needs to silence. Any time there's an actual dangerous scum bag, he has to give them an absurd number of chances to kill him and his friends before dealing with them.

It renders all progression meaningless in the story, and is absurdly ham-fisted and frustrating to read.

On top of that, after 100 chapters, the author basically hits the reset button, and virtually everyone is gone, and every character in the world seems to get even dumber, especially garth.

its not perfect but it is one of my favorite novels on the site. hopefully the author decided to come back and continue this story sometime in the future
