The Old Gods won't sleep forever, and the Dread Beasts wish to reap the benefits of Yggdrasil and her children. Mankind relies on Aether Warriors and Mages to stand in the way.

Preparing to take the three trials of Magehood, Kat knows what she wants. If she can make it as a Sorceress, not only will she be able to venture into dangerous territories to procure rare materials for her father's once prosperous smithy, but also have the power to protect the ones she loves. However, life doesn't always go the way one hopes it will. There is more to the three trials than her studies taught her, and the application of the rewards is for her to discover.

How will Kaitlyn Smythe make it in the world of blue bloods and affluent when all they see her as is a charity case?

How will she survive in the city of Ygg, when the nobles and drug traffickers are determined to bring it down  before the Dread Beasts can get to it?

Jpuntuned might really just be on to something. An author who deserves all his review commendations, he stands many tiers above the norm. You’re not going to find higher quality writing anywhere else, so you should really give this book a shot.

Third person narration and storytelling has always been my preference, and the author of Twisted Branches is more than adept to the style. His writing will no doubt grab others just like it did me, keeping them their for the entire ride. Immersion is immediate, the flow impeccable.

Immediately from the story I recognized a mixture of my favorite themes. A unique magical world where settings of the layered medieval crash with the influence of magical enlightenment. Our main character constantly struggles to find her footing when so many obstacles appear to be push against her. Starting the story after her school days, I can appreciate that the author is looking towards the future.

The grammar is top of the line. I counted maybe three typos between all the current chapters and am impressed.

Often the largest barrier for readers and authors, characters can break a story before the second chapter. If you can’t humanize them, make readers sympathize or even remember their names, you have no chance of keeping an audience. Fortunately this will never be an issue for Jpuntuned. A description and a personalization, each character in Twisted Branches only begins to unfurl to the reader. With every chapter, Jpuntuned weaves in details about his characters with deft ease. In my opinion, the characters are the books selling point, and only deserve good praises.

My son wrote this and it is the best thing ever

I am biased like any mother, but this is awesome so far. The quality of writing is very high class, and the grammar is super polished. The story is complex but easy to follow unlike the game story.

The detail is mind blowing. The world and characters are easy to picture and relatable. I wish there was more content for me to read. I binged all of it last night. Consistency is key and the story has it. I especially like the strong female protagonist. She doesn't sound like a man in a woman's body as is the case with women written by man authors.

Guaranteed, to give you what you need.

I like this story. A lot.

There, i said it. Twisted branches is refreshing read on RRL. I'm not doling out mindless, fanboy praise here. I mean it.

It's not the best. It's not perfect. It has flaws and a few shortcomings. But it's never claimed otherwise. Hell, it didn't claim much at all, but it went and delivered. Quality, not Quantity.

Too often people mistake the ability to provide quantity for writing skill, but it's not. Twisted Branches isn't particuarly long so far. Less than three hours worth of material, but it sticks with you.

Story:

So, might seem like a typical fantasy world, but it isn't. The world of TB is dark, very much so. While there are moments of light in here, just enough to keep it from being too obvious, there is also darkness lurking in the background. Subtle themes are twisted into the story, weaving together plots and revelations both great and small.

In one chapter, you can form a solid opinion of an event or character, only to have yourself questioning it when presented with a few more pieces of knowledge. Twisted Branches doesn't force it's opinions on you, it lets you build your own. I like that. I really do.

The Story uses a different magic system than most, which, honestly, works in its favour. It presents enough information to keep you enticed, before slowly revealing more and more. This never feels like needlessly building on an already complete subject, but, rather, a puzzle you want to solve. I still don't know everything here, but i'm excited to see where it will go.

Style:

I've read and reviewed an other work by JP before, and his style remains consistent from then to here. While, to my personal preference, it isn't the very best, it more than gets the job done.

I'm finicky, so take that as you will. TB finds just the right pace, and mantains it right up to the cureent chapter, being neither too fast or too slow, but threading a fine line in between.

Grammar:

Possibly TB's weakest area. While better than my own ( That isn't a dang high bar, considering i need a proofreader to sort my shit out. ), it has mistakes. Prehaps a bit more frequent than what you expect from a big name story, but they are bearable.

I'd advise working on it a little bit, or using a free, online resource like JSpell to just do it for you. Just some friendly advice.

Characters:

Like JP's other story, the characters are the driving force of this story. They're varied, thought-out and flawed. They're people. While one in particular has gotten on my nerves, he was deliberately designed that way.

Like i said above, your view and opinions of a character can shift in as little as a single chapter. I wont spoil here, but you'll see this in the story itself. JP also gives credit where it's due, whether its for a characters scene that was inspired by another writer, or for an idea. I liked that he effectivly recreated a memorable scene from another story into his own, and made it unique at the same time.

You have a likeable protaginist, mysterious antagonist, fleshed out side characters, deliberately hateable twats, and find yourself wondering just how far out MC will go. So far, she has proven to be on the proactive/risktaking side, which i like in a charcter.

Conclusion:

Twisted Branches is a good story, on deserving of its ranking in the top 100 here on RRL. It has its flaws, its mistakes, but its something new and fascinating. Give it a read.

Another Terrific Tale From An Terrific Author!

Even with only 4 chapters, this story has absorb me more than any published work i've ever read. I couldn't praise the author enough for his finely tailored characters and his manipulation over emotion through his vividly potrayed scenes.

But the thing that stood out to me the most was the style, it's a fine blend of realism and imagery, design to make you feel everything in the story to the maximum threshold. It's been a long time that a paragraph instill an actual gut wrenching emotion inside me.

No grammar mistake in sight so far. Proof that the author truly put time and hardwork into his writing.

In conclusion, this novel is one of thos rare gem one would find on this website. An entertaining original piece that will leave you hungry for me. And to tell you the truth...

It made me voracious.

Original, beautiful and most excellent.

Observe as a well constructed and consistent fantasy world unfolds before your eyes. Grammar errors are nigh absent, not that anyone would notice with the amazing flow of this story. I actually found myself experiencing Kat's highs and lows and becoming emotionally invested in a character only 4 chapters old.

The magic and wonder this story offers are only matched by the cruel realism that stems from human relationships, which the author depicts with spine-chilling accuracy.

A great read with lots of lore!

Like all the rest of the reviews, I enjoy your story. The characters have depth and are interesting, there is a lot of lore to the city and world. The main character has her motivations and makes her future seem bright. I did have a bit of trouble with figuring out who was speaking and noticed a few gramatical errors but they were far and few between.

Overall I enjoy it and would like to read more as you release!

God damn I love this author

Jpuntuned seems to have the knack for creating fleshed out worlds, interesting yet flawed characters and a healthy combination of humour and emotion.

Style:

His prose is impeccable, well written and immediately compelling. Its gripping and leaves you hungry for more.

Grammar:

I've never noticed any issues myself - it's readily apparent that he takes great care to hone his work before posting a chapter (Something I should really start doing)

Story & Character:

I haven't read a Fantasy story with a female protagonist for a long while now, and despite being male (Which some believe means you can't write good female characters) he easily provides fleshed out and compelling individuals that you really care about in everything that he writes.

His story and worldbuilding are equally compelling, I've had some behind the scenes looks into his process in how he crafts his world and the amount of thought and time that goes into each decision, no matter how small, is phenomenal.

TL;DR

Read Twisted Branches. The story is great, Jpuntuned is great, everything is just great. Great.

Engrossing start with great characters

Four chapters have laid the groundwork of an interesting world with real, fleshed out characters. From a technical standpoint this novel is far and above most online serials. Dialogue is believable, descriptions are on point, and grammar is superb. The time and effort the author puts into each chapter is clear and absolutely deserves the five-star rating.

I already feel invested in the protagonist, Kat, and the author has done a great job in conveying her emotions. The magic is well thought out, with a great origin which I look forwards to reading more about and seeing how it ties in with the plot.

For anyone looking for developed characters, cool magic, and an interesting fantasy setting, this book is well worth your time.

An Authentic plot with Captivating Characters

This is the most authentic novel I have read in a long time.

It is clear that the Author is a veteran with remarkable writing skills. No grammar or Punctuation errors spotted.  The story flows well; a bit fast paced but that is part of the charm.

What stands out most is the authentic plot. I have yet to spot a single generic troupe. The author has clearly invested a lot of effort into the novel. It is certainly a well appreciated read compared to the common works in online literature.

The characters are fleshed out. They jump out from the page and grab your attention. Furthermore, once you start reading you will definitely be invested in them.

This is the type of novel, I wish I found once it was completed. So that I could binge read it.
