Restart (Level Up - 1) by Dan Sugralinov

Original HIATUS Action Adventure Sci-fi Cyberpunk LitRPG Male Lead Slice of Life Sports

At thirty years old, Phil is an unemployed gamer who struggles to make ends meet. His only source of income is freelance writing (when he feels inspired enough to add another article to his less-than-popular blog). His wife has just walked out on him, leaving him without money, purpose, or food in the fridge.

On the day his wife dumps him, Phil receives a mysterious piece of wetware. A game interface seems to have been implanted in his brain which allows him to see the world through the eyes of an RPG player.

Now that Phil discovers his real-life stats, he can see they’re far below average. With 4 pt. Agility, 6 pt. Strength and 3 pt. Stamina, his most advanced life skill is predictably gaming.

Luckily, real-life stats can be leveled up just like virtual ones. But will it help Phil get his wife back? Can he stop being such a couch potato? Would the new game help him become fitter? Or more successful? Can his gaming skills finally come in handy in real life?

Last but not least, can he find out who could have uploaded the mysterious game to his brain? And how is he supposed to deal with this unknown but apparently omnipotent force?

Normally I like to read about actiony xianxia and fantasy stories but today I was bored and gave this a click.

Wow it's actually freaking interesting as hell. The story is only 10 chapters in so it might lose steam but so far, it hooked me. I love the idea of a total loser underdog irl getting his life under control. The characters feel real, the wife Yanna for example she's not just a bitch. Anyone would get frustrated as hell living with a guy who does nothing all day, it was interesting watching how just being near him sucked her life away. I feel like that really captured the feel of a marriage that lost its love.

But because it's such a messed up marriage I REALLY want them to work. For him to step and take some burden from his wife, for her to stop complaining and once again put effort into the relationship. It just felt so real.

The grammar is good and readable, and the author doesn't kill us in insane numbers like a lot of 'gamer' stories do. Doesn't have a skill for everything (once read a story with a dude leveling his breathing skill lol), thank god.

I defo say give this a read, especially if you're like me and typically don't read these slice of life stories.

Not anything particularly special. The leveling system has been done before and better in a few cases. Storyline isnt all that compelling or thrilling, just didn't keep my interest in what was going on. Pretty good writing but not a fan of the story or the characters.

Like the level system, but I find that there isn’t eniguh action. It might just be me though.

Great read, couldn't "put it down".

Will recommend to others, have favorited.

But! I HAVE WORK IN THE MORNING!! I can't just stay up reading this late!! Shame on you (author) for making me blame this book for my own problems! 😝 And thanks for the read, I really liked it.

Refreshing take on the system genre.

However after reading through the whole thing in one go I eventually decided against following the story.

It is well written, through you have some issues regarding character depth. Your case is more of a "tell" rather then "show", resulting in characters coming of somewhat flat.

However it is a fresh take on the system genre, certainly enjoyable to read.

But the absence of a romance or harem tag is already foreshadowing some real nasty drama, the main reason I decided to abandon the story.

If you enjoy drama and are fine with some stifling situational develplment the story is excellent, unfortunately these two things are rather mood killing for me so I eventually decided to abandon this story.

But if someone would ask me if I recommend to read this story I definitely would say yes, give it a shot to figure out if it's your taste.
