After Dr. Hawthorne Crenshaw's university experiences a terrorist attack, he undertakes a titanic effort to colonize a new planet in an effort to rescue some small part of humanity from what he suspects is an unstoppable spiral into a Dark Age on Earth. Subjecting himself to tens of thousands of years of repeated cycles of cryogenic freezing and unfreezing to monitor his passengers, he and his AI T.I.A. shepherd Earth's first, and perhaps only effort into colonizing a new planet.

Truly a gem on rr that I am extemely happy to have read. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat, not because of the immense action (of which there is actually very little) but because of wanting to see what Earth and TIA do next. Its extremely fun to watch the characters grow (Especially TIA). Truly a recommended read.

Very interesting look at a possible future

Its a very well constructed story with somewhat plausible future. Far from a scientific analisys, it deliver a very cativating story trough the point of view of a genius cientist and his A.I about the pos-nuclear war that raveged the Earth, as well as their developing emotions (not romantic, just ai develotiong human caracteristics, like pseudo dreams).

Definitly worth reading.

Author needs to deal with suspension of disbelief

I wanted to like this book I really did however I just couldn't. All stories require suspension of disbelief and it is easier with some than with others. As mentioned in another review the author tries to throw everything at wall for the Earth collapsing into anarchy. This doesn't work. In order for the author's future to come to fruition you would have to assume that corporations hate money and governments love giving up control (see the satellite destructions).

The author tries to throw the blame everything on the "Media" for essentially reporting information. Also religion contributes to the apocalypse... except all of Christianity which somehow is completely innocent.

Okay lets leave off the whole apocalypse and get to the first 'attack'. Earth shoots a laser at the ship. From Earth. Across space. To hit a moving ship. If you understand anything about lasers or astronomy you understand why this is ridiculous. Oh and they 'reflect' the lasers with solar panels. You know the thing that is designed to ABSORB light not reflect it.

I stopped reading at chapter 6 as I felt it was going in more of the same direction.
