I am not a expert on writing, but very found of VR stories. Age of Gods is a unique VR story in a way that it has a simple ABLITY SYSTEM, unlike other populer stories here on R.R.

I like crafting system and hope to see shope and business along with action in a balance way.

Wish you all the best

Good VR LITRPG that avoids most of the common pitfalls of the genre. He's not trapped in the game, he just has enough money to stay in it most of the time. No IRL conflicts or issues. Players showing up in the game is played off as a hero summoning gone wrong that just won't stop spitting out more people, which I thought was clever. No sadistic other players. Just a dude who wants to do ALL THE CRAFTING.

Because the MC goes the crafting route instead of the running around slaying everything route, the story is slower paced. Currently at Chapter 50 he's still in the starting city doing his first run through the beginner dungeon after leveling up a bunch of crafting professions. The upside of the slower pace is that the town feels more fleshed out than just a pit stop between adventures.

The story is well written with likeable characters and a nice world. I'm a little worried that he'll start making game-breaking modern weapons, which would kinda ruin the story for me.

Overall, it's a good LITRPG that's a nice change of pace from all the grimdark edgelord murder hobo ones out there. I recommend it.

definitely one of my favorite reads on here. I'm obsessed with the crafting aspects of vrmmo since I got started on them with LMS and this one does a wonderful job of fleshing out the creation side of the world/game. It does go away from pure crafting for a somewhat moderately sized arc, but there's a logical reason for it and it only enhanced the crafting. Altogether a well written and well thought out story that is worth the time to read. (Also worth the patreon IMHO, but I'm incredibly impatient lol)

I love the focus and detail on crafting and the innovative character sheet. The way players are from a 'hero summoning gone wrong' is a small detail that I think goes a long way. One of my favorite points of the story is the difference between manually learning skills and going to a trainer. The only issues I have is the little use of Darren's racial abilities but that doesn't really affect the quality of the story.

Looking forwards to new chapters!

Excellent Crafting VR Story so Far!

Reviewed at: Vol. 6 - Captivity - Chapter 3

I'm loving the story so far!

It has great potential to balance between crafting, fighting, magic, and exploring/adventuring in the game world!

Too many crafting stories have MC's in a static location and situation without a lot of adventures or battles but the plot progression is having a great balance between them all and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Great book but needs some pacing

I would rate it higher if volume six was better. But volume six has done very little to the story other than embryo’s and his sight change.

Starts strong, but struggles later.

I've read through Volume 4, Chapter 49.

It's okay. The first two volumes were excellent. The third was decent. The fourth is slow and boring.

The first novel focuses on Darren as he learns the basics of crafting in a new game. He travels around town meeting new people and trying new ideas. He has a clear goal, and it's fun to watch him work towards it. He lives in both the real world and the fantasy. Both are built up and expanded. Darren learns, struggles and grows. It's interesting.

Then, the third volume hit. The third volume is a magic school arc. It's fairly predictable, but there are still some interesting character interactions. Characters have goals, motives, personalities... it's okay. There are still some things driving the plot, but Darren doesn't really struggle. He doesn't seem to need to truly work for anything. The consequences and work feel superficial. There is no sense of a risk of failure. Even when things go horribly wrong, he gets power spikes.

This last book feels aimless. The last few dozen chapters have been descriptions of crafting. That's fine. It's a novel about crafting. But, I don't feel invested in what Darren makes. I have no emotional investment in his successes and failures because there have been almost no ramifications. Everything he touches becomes an instant overnight success. There is no struggle to find materials. There is no struggle to make a living in the game or in reality. In fact, the real world seems to have been forgotten entirely.

The crafting, the draw of the novel, reads like a documentary. First he makes part A by doing B, C and D. The end. I love attention to detail, but most of the details read like filler. A certain part of the design is likely to fail? Great. Show me. Show the character struggling. Show it failing. Show it blowing up in the character's face. Don't just tell me that he magics away the problem, or that it worked first try. Without failure, or at least the threat of it, you have a story without conflict. A story without conflict is called filler.

Rant over.

The grammar is usually very good. One or two mistakes per chapter, but better than a lot of what's on the site.

The characters, when we see them, feel alive. Their worlds continue with or without the main character. They have their own stories, backgrounds, goals... I want to see more of them. It's a shame we're stuck following a guy who shuts himself indoors and ignores everyone all day.

Overall, I'd say it's worth checking out.

I enjoyed it until the constant grinding got less interesting, I think the smithing skill is more interesting than the magitech aspect because it's less technical.

However while I got burnt out, it was still enjoyable for what it is, and I will not whinge about a story focused on grinding to be bad due to grinding.

Well worth it, will come back when I feel like it, but not a good story to constantly binge more than a day or two.

Don’t be put off by the idea of a crafting god

I’ve personally been iffy about starting this book, I eventually bit the bullet and started it and im happy to proved wrong about my initual thoughts. The book is great and has a events that I vibe with. I personally can’t wait for this novel to get to the later Stages of the game. Well worth the read.

Enjoying the story, probably because I tend to be a bit of a crafter myself when playing games.

Couple things bugging me though - first, not a fan of adding in 'guns', though it seems somewhat reasonable considering the slight steam punk arc of magitech.  The creation of the welder seems a bit forced though, and even with his perks, the speed of learning seems a bit high though, especially for the tradeskills he isn't a fan of.  Looking forward to him doing something besides crafting though!
