We all have dreams of becoming powerful, becoming the cool mage that rules the world, living as the dashing rogue who can steal a kingdom's entire royal treasury undetected, or perhaps, the valiant knight whose prowess on the battlefield is unmatched by all.

However, when the apocalypse strikes, you can only use what you have at your disposal, be that guns, baseball bats, your fists, or maybe, just maybe, a shovel.

One young man who goes by the name of Darenzo has just had his world altered into one that is now the focal point of some sort of experiment.

Just at the end of his shift at the skip site, a worldwide announcement was made, that not only changed Darenzo's life, but also the lives of all of the Earth's inhabitants.

Can Darenzo survive and thrive in this changed world? Or will his growing madness best him? The answers to these questions can only be revealed with time.

[Guaranteed 2 chapters per week, the only exceptions being announced breaks or emergencies]

Interesting System.  Very well done there, well thought out and reasonably well-implemented.  The number of questions can be frustrating to someone like me who finds it difficult to quantify power levels, etc. when the character can't quantify power levels.

The writing itself could use some work.  Phrasing, etc. is getting better as chapters go on and characterizations are more fleshed out.

two things to work on in the future:

Your writing is a bit... blunt.  You'd benefit from concentrating on 'show, don't tell' in some cases,  especially in some of the mid-early chapters (getting better, but descriptions still wind up being a bit 'this is how it is'.  This relates to...

I like that you're characterizing very explicitly, it helps differentiate, but there's no subtlety to any of the characters, no depth.  They're largely caricatures.  Wild emotions, sudden feelings, disabilities, etc. seem to be crutches to the author in lieu of fully fleshing out characters.

Show don't tell, in the case of many of thoughts Daz has, motivations of characters (I.e. The Richie twins 'do you want to kiss him'.  Yes, he rescued the damsels and cured her, and attraction is a sudden thing sometimes, but like... make hem flirt.  Or make her flirt and him not get it or ignore it in favor of the system.  That could be it's own but of comic relief.

system 4/5, too many unknowns but extremely interesting

plot 5/5, you made village building interesting again, and hallelujah for that

writing 4/5, getting better but could use some touch ups, expansion, etc.  It's better than many things here, but it's no Gam3, Ghosthound, or Awaken Online yet.

Characters, 3.5/5. Could use some work, too blunt.

overall, definitely something I intended to check up on at least once a week.  Will join the ranks of $1 patrons if I can nail down a stable job this week.

I lovie it, keep up the amazing work!

Lets be honest... I love the shovel as primary weapon and the Mc demented relationship with his golem, it's a fun ride.

Very nice story with an original MC

First I want to say that I really like this novel. Each time I come on RR I hope there's a new chapter.

The writing and the story is good.

apocalypse & kingdom building

This is an entertaining read, the Lit of the Litrpg does not feel pasted on top. The kingdom building is great to follow and the main character does not make me want to hate him as some of the stories that go for op and slightly evil for the lulz.

  • Overall Score

The interesting aspects of the story

The story itself is a very fun read, and truly shows not only what the characters are feeling and thinking in a way to let the reader not have to sit there with a cup of tea and deduce it. The minus to that however is it doesn't leave a world of new information to learn about them in a way to grow them. From what I see, you are influencing character growth through events, which does work, but doesn't let the 'hook' drag interest towards anyone other than Daz, or Crusher, or Daz's sister, since everyone else kinda is known. they are good characters, we do see them grow, but at least I am not able to be instantly hooked to a new character right away.

For the overall story, I really enjoy it. Having people rise up and change their fate, while growing as a character and doing bad ass things is amazing to read about. What I would say would be something to improve apon, like writen by you, is maybe just simply write down something that you find important, like the whole gods thing. As it is, they are not as big of a deal, but as long as you remembered the influence placed on that part, you can twist the story later to add them back in. just remembering what has been important, at least at the time, to use later or explain at least a little, to end that little 'arc'.

For your style, I frankly enjoy the bluntness of it. I myself have a bit of trouble understanding some undertones by writers that main stories are already a bit of a mystery. However, some underlining things, like the subtle hints you have pointed towards Daz's past, are really fun things to keep interest in the story well after reading the chapter. Overall though, I really enjoy your style.

Overall, I think it is a strong story. It may not be perfect, but I do not consider any book to be perfect. Anything could change in the realm unless it is like apart of the law that literally makes the world. I really enjoy your writing, and I really hope that you are able to enjoy writing this story as I am enjoying reading it.

You might get surprised

So, i just finished reading the last released chapter (as of now - chapter 92). It's worth mentioning that i just signed in royal road solely to write this review (my first as well), since after reading a post where the author whined a little bit about life and stupid people being stupid, he asked for a fair review for anyone that do care, or could spare the time. Since it's only fair that we reward his efforts on writing stories for our amusement, with little to no gain for himself, with a little bit of our time, here i am.

And with that said let's get down to business. Overall it's a fun story if you like the genre. To be honest the style in the begining of the story is clearly amatourish. The way the caracters intereract with one another is bland and written in a way that can rub you the wrong way because you might find it unnatural. However, that in itself is not a major flaw as you keep going along the chapters since the improvement is tangible and the feeling of wrongness fades away to give place to interesting relationships taking place. Therefore i would probably rate the story style higher as it goes on and surpass its early stages.

About grammar, that is little i can say about as i am not a native speaker. Despite my confindence in my own english fluency i will probably never be that good. However i think overall the story has little to none grammar mistakes so my high evaluation.

Thirdly the story. Who does not like apocalipses right? As long as i'm not the guy getting screwed, whatching the world go down in flames, zombies or whatever sure is fun. And so far the author has presented us with a nice balance of destruction and adaptability of the human race. I particulary like the RPG aproach, and as an avid reader of these kinds of stories i know how easy is to screw up a narrative by losing yourself in the myriad of stats and skills that, as the story progress, stop making sense and become something delusional. Therefore the author has my respect for managing well his own world building. My only frustration with the story so far is

Spoiler: Spoiler

Finally the character story. Here is a really nice surprise. In the first few chapters i thought " here's another cliche MC with hidden talents awakened by the adversity yadda yadda yadda". That thought surely bit me in the ass. The author does manage to create a unique personality for the MC wich not only makes sense, but for once really does fit the whole end of the world scenario. So far the side caracters have not been too deeply developed, but seeing how i got bitch slapped for my skepticism regarding the protagonist i sure have high hopes for the others.

In conclusion, it is an amateur work, sure, but a very good one with potential to be excellent. As the author himself stated, this is somewhat a "beta version" of his story and as such must be reviewed as one. The early chapters could use a little editing to create a more natural flow of events, however as i already said, the story gets better and better as it goes, and what i thought to be another guilty pleasure reading session turned out to be a rewarding experience, my only regret is to have found the story at its stage as now i am condemned to an excruciating pain known as release waiting.

A huge thanks to the author for this immersive story and don't be discoureged by other people and keep developing your abilities, you can make it there with a dedication and hard work (I hope you found my review fair).  For the rest of you, give this story a chance if you have the time, much like myself you might get surprised at how good the story really is compared to its ratings.

Creative, Fun to Read

Firstly, Every story needs some dynamics that needs to provide the readers with an urge to come back. And this story has that. With an apocalyptic scenario and how the people could be affected by this, the story holds good content.

What would need improvement is the characters in my personal opinion, but the way it's progressing seems to make me believe that is slowly happening.

My only concern is the short chapters, would be great if it was a big longer. But oh well, can't complain.

(I am broke, else I would have definitely donated to show my support!)

I love the writing style of the author and also how the character is not an OP from start. I would still prefer Daz and his minions to grow slowly and steadily. With all that being said, I love this novel and I encourage you, Lone to write more!

And last but not least, bad reviews should be taken with a tinge of salt, both by the readers and the author. Cause let's face it, what is the point of taking just bad reviews at face value?

Keep an open mind and enjoy the adventures of Daz that unfurl with the passage of time.
