As the system initializes, the world shifts. Geography is rearranged and mixed, and levels and stats are instituted across the globe. On that night, one young man was walking through an underground tunnel, his mind on the small problems of his easy life. Because of his location during the shift, he starts in a dungeon far above his level, with no knowledge or teacher, or Newbie Village to guide him. Without a class, he struggles simply to survive in this world changed by its new connection to the Nexus.

But struggle he will, for he is Randidly Ghosthound, and this is only how his legend begins...

**Author's Note**

This started as a way to destress and play with overly complicated stats systems and level systems, and I just kept writing. I don't really take it very seriously, but feel free to read and enjoy.

Long time lurker/reader, Rarely post/review

I'm splitting my review into two main parts: Rebuttal to criticism of this fiction/author and review of actual product, read if interested.

Review of "The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound":
Overall high marks.

STORY 5/5: The story is compelling and drags you onward. It starts with a college student and puts them through a crucible of horror and discovery tempering them into something MORE. Once he's introduced back into the general populace I feel the fiction really picks up and does a lot to both appeal to the OP MC faction while still having him go out and experience the world and realize he has to gain power at the edge of death (for the power growth faction) if he wants to actually accomplish his goals.

CHARACTERS 4/5: Believable and understandable growth arcs for most characters. I'm only awarding a 4/5 because I am not dragged back to this story time and again for characters as much as I am the story in general. Not for any particular flaw in character design or portrayal.

STYLE 4/5: Usually third person limited on the MC which gives a very descriptive and interesting perspective on all the changes to the world and the path(s) he takes to try to influence it and control his own destiny. Jumping character narrative for other perspective adds a different flavor to the story and fills in gaps in understanding. For the most part the jumps are very fun and explain how the rest of the world sees the MC, only giving 4 because there are a few perspectives I felt were redundant and/or a waste of time, this is most likely personal and open to taste but I'm hoping 4/5 works for most people.

GRAMMAR 3.5/5: Overall very good. Update 6/25/18, I'm downgrading this section to 3.5. In recent chapters the errors have been increasing. Sometimes in the 3-4 range per chapter. It has gotten to the point where it is distracting somewhat, I can still understand the story but it's like speech to text recognition or a bad auto-correct. Someone should say 'sure' to agree with you not 'shore' *unless you're doing an accent*. Will probably downgrade overall to 4.5 if continues, but other features keep drawing me back and I still enjoy the fiction.

Originally posted 1/4/18:
REBUTTAL TO CRITICISM: I came out of my lurkerdom because enough people have been leaving negative comments to the author about his/her release schedule that s/he felt the need to respond to them. Short version: Puddles has released 2,000 pages in the last 9 months for free, at a consistently high quality and maintaining a spot in the top 20 Active-only ranking on RRL.

Puddles will usually try to leave a rough draft on the Patreon daily and if you have to have your fix and don't care that the proofreading/editing is non-existent then there you go. If you're on RRL only and want to read for free take solace in the fact that it's one of the highest volume producers in the top 20 and yeah, you might go a few days without and then get 4 or 7 chapters at a time. If you think that's unreasonable then go ahead and publish your own fiction on here and we'll be delighted to let you know how you measure up to your standards.

TLDR: Very good. Don't get bent out of shape on release schedule, take comfort in the fact that the release volume is high and well done.

I spent 8-something days plowing through 380 chapters. It was a gruelling death-march but I feel like it was worth it. I immensely recommend this story.

STYLE:
It's well done, if a bit ordinary. Don't expect any sort of flowery prose.
STORY:
The synopsis is all you need to know. Or, it should be. There come a moment where there is a massive shift in the 'Setting' where the story takes place. It was less than optimal and not extremely interesting at some points, but it was passable. Later on, the Setting reverted back to where it was before the shift and I think that changeback was very needed.
GRAMMAR:
Despite there being something like an editor to this story, I still often catch what appears to be auto-correction being hard at work. Not the sort of mistakes a person would make. It's very rarely a word that doesn't exist (typo) or a double-strike but some words are obviously wrong, if close to what the correct word should be.
CHARACTERS:
Lots of them. Varied and fleshed out. It very rarely feel like a character's motivation is to forward the plot, although sometime you feel it slightly.

Well written and going places

There's only the rare gramatical mistake or awkward turn of phrase, and the plot is progressing at a decent pace while also making the character's skill progression and research into the new rules of the world feel earned.

The only real problem is the main character's name. I mean, "Randidly Ghosthound" sounds like something Ned Flanders would say after being pulled into an RPG - "those ghosthounds ran-didly off with my staff!"

Fall in quality, new transition ruined everything

This review kind of contains spoilers, but nothing major.

Been following this story for a long time, and i have to say, the latest mass release of chapters was a suprise, but the new abrupt transition from randidly to some uninspired character called hank was honestly the final straw...

The story has been getting worse and worse for almost 150-200 chapters, so much goes unexplained, so much makes no sense, so much is written, and then thrown away, and forgotten. And now we suddenly just get forcefed new characters and p.o.vs with no prior knowledge of them even existing in the story, after trying to invest ourselves into a multitude of other side characters and povs, for more than 400 chapters...

Like somebody else said in the comment sections, this came too abruptly and this change ruined the story in less than 10 chapters for me, completely.

I'm dropping this and will probably not bother continue reading before we get back to the actual story which is basically in the title: The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound, NOT The legend of randidly and some unknown characters called hank and ezekiel ghosthound.

This is possibly the worst transition i've ever read or seen in any literature, and i'm almost certain this change will make the story loose a ton of subscribers/lurkers, and possibly patreons too.

Closing out by thanking the author for the prior enjoyment the story has given me, it started out good, and has given other authors inspiration to write their own stories: Like the new world by monsoon117.

Fabulous first Arc, then where did the story go?

Caveat, I have stopped reading at Ch 180 for a bit.

The first arc was very well done. The MC's cheat power was actually believably set up. The initial character development was intriguing as many of the secondary characters became established, our MC, however, goes from a normal college student with a girlfriend and others he is fanatically devoted to and becomes an asocial hermit who wants nothing to do with people.

He fosters and mentors a village, grumbling all the time if he interacts with them. He rebuffs and rejects a potential love interest. By the end of the first arc, the MC is starting to respond to this redemptive love interest. Then the author going so far as to say, 'oh, their attraction is artificial', and even kills off the love interest. In more ways than one.

BANG! We arrive at the second arc and the story shifts from a Litrpg survival and city builder, to a xianxia tournament novel. The author goes out of his way to ditch the litrpg by having the MC consume a potion that blocks 'system notifications'. The MC becomes even more antisocial and seems to be becoming the stereotypical 'Cultivator', arrogant and rude with violence as their first option. That city he fostered? He sends them a message, once, and then forgets about all those bothersome people for at least the next 50 chapters.

Grammar: Is mostly good. Frequent missing words. Several times sentences were left confused as things like 'couldn't' became 'could'. Not terrible and mostly ignorable.

Story and Character: Both suffer a similar fate. Excellent up to chapter 120 or so, then rapidly being thrown by the wayside. Going from 4-5 stars to maybe 2.5.

I will be going back and try to finish the story. But the direction it is heading now gives me little hope of recovery.

The start is ok. World gets LitRPG like system and MC spawns in a dungeon which makes him much stronger than anyone else. I can roll with that, could have been done better, but it wa worth the read.

In the first part the MC starts collecting people and builds a community and deals with the new world. Again, I can dig that.

For some fucking reason, suddenly bunny and turtle people appear and, because people hated them understandably, soon dissapear again. Kind of weard, but I can get over it.

Now comes the big one, for some reason, propably because the author was bored of his own story, the MC gets transported to a whole new world and the whole point of this story changes. Prior we had a survival of the new world kind of story, suddenly we had one of those Chinese stories where all people do, is train and in battles stand around and fight with their energy. At this point I really thought about dropping this more than once. But I pushed on. In the end this part in this new world is longer than the actual story I was promised, which was a survival story in a LitRPG world.

When the arc is over back it goes to our world where there a heck of people you don't even know anymore, fighting a new antagonist. I dropped it somewhere in that arc.

So should you read this or not? It starts off better than most stories on here (which doesn't say much) but quality drops and drops and drops. Actual story doesn't really have anything to do with what it promises. I wouldn't read it again to be honest, but if you don't have anything to read at the moment, try and see for yourself.

Well written story, but like most, gets worse over time.

Characters are fleshed out better and more realistic than in most stories here, but i just can't connect to them. MC is just unlikable. Other than his piercing gaze, he basically does not have anything.

And since that multiple POV rotation started, reading have just became a chore.

TL;DR: Start is an amazing survival LIRPG story with OP MC, turns into shitty Chinese tournament training novel where MC doesn't have to do anything really to survive.

This is a story that was amazing and has become very shit lately. Like I would rate it a 2/5 shit lately compared to a 5/5 start.

The premise on how MC is OP as fuck is that he doesn't take a class (unlimiteddddd skillz) and he got a huge boost by living in an area for months while time outside the dungeon didn't move. Feels like a cope out, but I can roll with it. (Except no one else gets the time dilation and can only stay in for 24 hours when they get their own dungeon... huh....)

So excuses for him being OP aside, the start is great. But enter in training montage.... and more training.... and more.... and more... and more.............. Seriously though it is all he does, goes out and kills stuff, comes back and trains.

We do get some character growth for him, but it is limited and he kinda feels like a brick most of the time never laughing or relaxing. Just training and discovering more about how such and such is holding back his epicness.

But you are sucked into the story at this point, the author introduces actually good characters that we all can get behind. Until this most recent arc... It is utter shit. He goes to spear nation and fights in tournaments... then more training…. Then more tournaments followed by pompous little shits who challenge the epic MC. I’m literally skipping chapters at this point, it is the same crap over and over. Instead of finishing what could have been a 10-20 chapter arc it has become the most mind numbing repeat shit.

Author for the love of god get him the fuck out of that world, it is ruining everything about this novel.

Interesting, but poor pacing and characters

Style: 4/5

The world building is probably this story's best feature. The details on the system, it's mechanics and on other worlds is really interesting. However I dropped a star because of the story's tendency to info dump. It makes the reading dry and can become incoherent when too much new information is dropped on you in one go. It's made worse when something is explained once unclearly and the author expects you to remember the details one hundred chapters later.

Story: 2/5

The story itself is let down by how meandering it can be and the pacing feels really off. The biggest example is the time spent in Shal's homeworld. While the world building was interesting to see, the arc dragged on for too long and had too little impact on the story itself. Moreover the current plot with the "Creature" is so poorly explained that it's difficult to work out what's going on.

Also, it's horrible when the author decides to give an updated list of skills etc. It's just pages of text with no reminder of what everything is and serves no purpose except to bulk up a chapter and show off how many skills the MC has.

Grammar: 4.5/5

Grammar is generally good with few mistakes. I only notice the occasional typo or poorly worded sentence.

Character: 1/5

My biggest problem with this story is that I am not at all invested in the characters. There is so little focus on any of the side characters for them to have any depth or for me to care about them at all.

As for the main character? Randidly is just bland. He doesn't have anything in the way of a personality. He definitely doesn't grow as a character. Through the story he may get new abilities and grow more powerful, but there is no development of him as a character. He feels like the player character of a game acting as a vessel for the audience to experience the world. That works in games, but not in novels.

Overall, I think this story can be enjoyable if you're willing to parse through the info dumps and forgive the two dimensional characters. I was willing to keep going with this story until I realised that reading updates was more tedious than exciting.

Great Start, Looking Forward to More!

Solid start to a new post-apocalyptic game-takes-over-earth LitRPG story. I like the MC, he's smart and logical in his choices and has lots of room to grow both as a character and in power.

Check this one out, you won't be disappointed!
