An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, or a place to find adventures, a starting ground for quests and legends.

In this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her.

But an inn is what she found, and so that’s what she becomes. An innkeeper who serves drinks to heroes and monsters–

Actually, mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

This is the story of the Wandering Inn.

So good that I support the author on Patreon

A bit hard to get through at the beginning (for someone who is used to the average RRL novel), with the MC constantly on the run and in trouble, but it is definitely worth it. This is not a wish fulfillment novel with an OP MC. It's about normal people sent to world of magic and levels without any knowledge or abilities, trying to adapt and survive.

Characters are very likeable, feel real and are consistent in their motivations. They are growing and getting used to the world around them, getting small victories and dealing with setbacks.

So far there have been only small hints of an overarching plot, but the arcs are interesting enough.

The writing is beautiful, descriptive, and most of all free of any/most gramatical errors! The style is amazing, really descriptive. The writing transports its readers into the world, its beautiful, just lovely.

The characters are fully fleshed out. They grow, they feel real. They have defined personalities and are colorful and sometimes unpredictable, like REAL people. Not some over characterized stereotype. Plus the mc isn't op, though she isn't weak either; she has her own way of getting around!

The presentation is also great. The spacing of paragraphs and what not. It's not just some giant wall of text, it flows freely in an organised manner.

There are also a fair few chapters out, they aren't short either! Making this fun to pick up and to hopefully continue following.

This fiction is VERY good and I hope the writer continues. I hope this becomes one of the very few finished series here on royalroadl!

In my humble opinion, this story deserves a top 10 spot on RR.

Style - I have never been one to be put off by someone's style. If, when I read it, I don't have problems with it, then for me it is good style. I know this is a simplistic way of thinking, but I'm mostly interested in story and characters with grammar being 3rd and style being last on my priority list for a story.

Grammar - It's almost perfect. You can find one or two mistakes every few chapters, but they are mostly just words that are misspelt in haste of writing. There are never misused terms and the grammar newer stands in the way of enjoying the story.

Story - It's a great one. For me, a fantasy story needs a balance - Not shying away from dark things but never going too far that road either. There are plenty of 'edgy tragedy' novels on RR and this is not one of them, as it brings forth both the fluffy good stuff as well as the dark and sad one. I'll be honest with you here, there are rarely any stories that get more out of me than few good laughs, it much easier to write few good jokes and call it a day as the reader is still entertained by a comedy story. It's much harder to make a man feel a bit of wetness in his eyes as he reads a particularly touching part of the story without going full-on tragedy. The hardest of all, at least for me, is to write a good 'feel good' parts that touch the heartstrings, without making it blatantly clear that: "HEY! LOOK! THIS IS THE PART WHERE YOU CRY!" I love this story for being subtle in all these things and delivering a good experience because of it.

Here I'd like to address the most controversial reviews, that state you should not include a religious talk or political talk in your novels. First of all, I'm currently agnostic with no far end reaching on any political side. I'm mostly liberal, but there are some subjects I feel conservative about. That being said, I feel that not including such things in a story about people from real life Earth modern world, would be a waste and in fact take away from the believability of the situation. I believe that religion or politics can be used as a powerful tool in writing a story. You don't have to bash one or the other, but taking a stance is acceptable. It makes for more realistic characters and dialogue. The real world is full of people of whom views on these subjects you don't agree with. Don't let a single thing define someone for you, judge based on all they have done. So if I didn't quite agree with Erin's or Ryokas worldview, that doesn't mean the story is now trash. it just means that I'm reading about other people and not just a blank slate generic character you are supposed to insert yourself into as is commonly seen with most transported to another world novels.

Character score - I dislike Ryoka's ideology, her view of life, her asshole attitude. I dislike Erin's almost non-existent survival instincts and sometimes straight up dumb behaviour. Does this mean I think they are bad characters? No! I think they are wonderfully written individuals, that go through some good character development. They are not me and they should not be me. As most transported to other world novels offer blank slate characters, people sometimes forget how important is that not every character is someone you can insert yourself into. The worst thing you could do with such characters makes their worldviews and actions hypocritical. There is none of that here. They are consistent in their choices, and after a while, you start noticing that all the choices they make, while not being something you would personally make, is totally something Ryoka or Erin would do.

Here is the best part - we are given great character development. I think the best development in this story is for Ryoka who goes from full-blown social outcast to a person who tries to be better, while inevitably failing at that a few times down the road, but comes out of each failure a better person overall. You can see development in other characters too, it's just that the Ryoka's one is more noticeable.

In the end, the best characters you could ask for are the ones you care for when you read about them. There are currently no characters whose PoV chapter I don't read with interest, and I know that sometimes (on other novels) I tend to skip them.

Now comes the part of why I gave the character 4,5 instead of straight 5. Goblins. I mentioned before that I dislike wishy-washy hypocritical characters, and while I can't fully count her as one. She does make some of her decisions like that. She can't seem to decide what is 'goblin way' and what is not 'goblin way'. Some of the things clearly overlap and you find her making a similar decision to the ones that she deemed too 'human'. Not to mention that she can't really decide if she thinks the goblins should be better people and lose the goblin way or keep on nomadic killer lifestyle and be considered monsters. She keeps swapping between the 2 and I do consider her own logic hypocritical and flawed. All that being said, she is still a fine character to read on, with her own interesting adventures, thoughts and feelings.

I hate 5 star systems. There is too much of a jump between each of the stars, so it's no wonder people have the option to rate .5 thus, in reality, the system is a 10-star rating. For me, I would like a 100 point system to better express how I feel about this story.

Currently 92/100 for me.

P.S. -99999 to score for Inn not actually wandering. Will change if it starts to wander.

World setup and story complement each other

It's a great blend of magic, drama, comedy, and adventure. It's just really well done.

This story has all that I like to read about. But what puts it really high on my list are these:

I like levels but thats it. I don't like when a popup with level details come to life in front of character's screen. This doesn't allow the charater to grow on you emotionally, it just doesn't come to life because you can't really relate to the character this way. I really love how author have used the good and avoided the bad completely.

This story is not linear at all and charaters' are not grinding to level. There are so many characters' that one is bound to fall in love with a few. A story about a doctor in volume 4, literally, brought me to tears, as in, I was sobbing.

I love the pace of this story. It's not too fast paced but it's definately not slow. It's the perfect blend of two. It's fast when it should be and it slows down when needed. Content defines the pace and here, it's done splendidly.

Some people won't realize it until they try to write, but the most difficult part of a story writing, is the part which most people believe to be the easiest. Its the dialogs', the conversations'. They bring a story to life. I won't say they are exceptional, but they are well thought of, and do the story the justice it needs, because it is a fantastic story.

The only thing I believe the author can improve on, is that Author tries to explain almost every thing and doesn't leave much to the readers imaginaiton. I believe it will make it easier for the Author, to avoid going into too much detail, as it will help in reducing the size of the chapters' and every reader's imagination will be running wild, making them fall in love even more; if that's posssible! because I am already in love with this story.

Note: I wish no harm to anyone with my review and those who don't agree with my opinion, its all good, you don't have to, it's only my personel opinion, and theirs bound to be people around who won't agree with it.

Best None OP-Character story on RRL

Its well written. It has some of the most interesting  and deep characters i've read on RRL.  The chapters are satisfying in length.  The world building is original yet familiar.  I now support the author on Patreon.

MASTERPIECE, JUST MASTERPIECE

Good, no, great pace - check.

No annoying RPG grinding - check.

Easy readable, consistent phrasing - check.

Unique and not overused ideas - check.

That points alone make this novel worthwhile reading, but this one have more. It have something captivating, something that made me fight my drowsiness to read another chapter. And another. And another. I know it's not going anywhere, but i can't help myself being immersed in reading, in this world and it's people. Being fantasy, it touch ever actual themes of classic literature.

It's been told, that before Clifford Simak writers used people to show spaceship, but Simak started use spaceships to show people. Author here follows that principle, (s)he use another world and magic to show people.

It's sad how publishers makes huge profits of "50 shades" of porn. BUT! There is some authors, who write interesting books with interesting thoughts for free. And it's marvelous.

Added:

Characters growth and vision of the world based on critical moments of their lives, on their decisions made by both logic and emotions, instead of some dubious out-of-the-blue reasons. But such moments are rare, which makes story feel real.

Thuthfully, there shouldn't be "LitRPG" tag on this novel, because there is no major elements of this genre. Yeah, there is some blue screens, but those exist mainly for one character to reject them, otherwise skills, status and all that stuff doesn't affect story at all.

i wish i had more money so i could throw it at you

doing something new with an age-old genre is a feat in itself. But when i read this story it feels like a new take on the whole "transported into a magic world" and that is brilliant, especially when you fill said story with vibrant characters and a grammatical correct style in its own league then i damn near piss myself with joy.

that aside wile do enjoy these multiple POV it aso feels irrelevant and confusing at times, though i will admit in hindsight that some of these have already been relavent to the main plot some of them just dont feel like they ever will

A hidden gem, I wish I found sooner.

I must admit that I was not expecting much from this story. I thought it to be another transported MC going from overly cliche situation to the next with carboard side characters. Boy was I wrong. The MC is likeable, the world building is solid and although it starts slow ( in my opinion ) it is all worth it. The side characters all have their own charm which makes the reading experience even more pleasant. I have nothing but gratitude for the author for the fast speed of release and the work that goes into every chapter. Keep up the good work.

What can i say that hasn't been said ?

Everything i could possibly say, every praise i can dole out, all of that has already been given to TWI. And it deserves it all.

Forget Sanderson, forget Martin, forget Riordan and Hobb, THIS is the single best piece of Fantasy fiction i have ever read. And i have read A LOT. i've read every chapter, from the first to the current, this story has made me laugh, genuinely cry, feel angry, excited and scared. everything i have ever looked for in a story can be found here. and i'll keep reading until it ends...

Give in and publish 3 chaps a week already, will you Aba ?

This should brighten up your day/week/month/year.

This novel made me write a review. After reading a web novel up to the latest update, I stumbled upon THIS, looking for a "side" novel as to say, to keep me busy while waiting for that novel's next update. Well, now I'm reading that other novel to keep me busy while waiting for The Wandering Inn's next update.

For me, the characters are the best part of this novel, not that I'm saying that the story's not good. The story is one of the best when it comes to the "Transported to another world genre". Hell it's one of the BEST novel I've read regardless of genre. When it comes to style and grammar I can't find that much fault. There are few to none spelling and grammar errors but as far as I (not that I'm much of a professional) can tell all of them are minor, like writing to instead of too.

The Wandering Inn is like a breath of fresh air after reading heavy stories. I'm not saying that this novel don't have it's share of conflicts and climaxes. There are times that the author would make you feel emotional but it's written in a way that you'll be able to emphatize with the characters. As I said, the character is the strongest point of this novel. I won't say that the MC is one of the best female MCs ever, The MC is one of the best MCs ever regarless of gender.

The point is if you're waiting for the author to make more chapters before reading, I'd say you should start reading now. A story this good, I won't be surprised if it becomes published.
